December 29, 1938 - February 5, 2026
Larry Bronston Hagan was born on December 29, 1938, and lived a life defined by service, leadership, entrepreneurship, and deep commitment to family and community.
Larry was a proud graduate of Central High School and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he earned a degree in business administration. During his time at the University of Nebraska, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and remained an active and devoted alumnus for many years. Always a "C" student, Larry enjoyed being out of the classroom and interacting with people more than studying. He had an outgoing personality, enormous wit and never met a stranger. He was loved by all of his friends. A lifelong and passionate Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, Larry never missed watching a football game and took great pride in cheering on the Huskers every season.
Following college, Larry served his country as an officer in the United States Army Medical Service Corps, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and lifelong respect for service.
A natural businessman with a genuine love for enterprise of all kinds, Larry was president of Hagan and Son Construction Company, where he built the masonry components of commercial buildings throughout the state of Nebraska. In addition to construction, he owned and managed several businesses, always approaching business with discipline, vision, and integrity. From 1979 to 1990, Larry was an owner of First Westroads Bank, later serving on the bank's board of directors for 20 years, playing a significant role in its growth and success.
Larry was deeply involved in the Omaha community and generously gave his time and leadership to numerous organizations, including serving on the Children's Nebraska Board of Directors, the Greater Omaha YMCA, Happy Hollow Club and served as president of the Nebraska Tennis Association. As a passionate advocate for youth athletics and safety, Larry sponsored a concussion testing program for junior high and high school boys' and girls' sports in the Omaha area. Sports Illustrated magazine featured the program in a detailed article highlighting his commitment to youth safety and concussion prevention.
Larry was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Hyland Hagan. Together, they built a life centered on family, values, and enduring love.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Steve Hagan, Matt Hagan and Tim Hagan. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Matthew Hagan (Natalie), Christian Hagan (Megan), Mitchell Hagan and Tucker Hagan; and great grandchildren, Henry Hagan and Harper Hagan.
Larry will be remembered for his sharp business mind, unwavering work ethic, generosity of spirit, and the lasting impact he made on his family, his community and the many lives he touched.
