TED LITZENBERG Obituary

TED J. LITZENBERG, 70 of Woodburn, Ind., passed to spirit, no longer confined. On Saturday, July 22, 2023, "a silence so deep that only your soul could hear, God called you home". Born July 8, 1953 in Fort Wayne, Ind. to Kenneth and Elaine (Helmke) Litzenberg, he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and graduated Woodlan High School in 1971. In 1974, he married his wife, Marian Schliesser, and had two children, Kenny and Jen. Ted worked for Colonial Homes as their Superintendent until his battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) would not allow him to walk. Ted accomplished many things, one being building his own home; however, he was most proud of his family. Ted especially loved taking his family to Rice Lake in Canada to catch the biggest and best blue gills an angler could find. Ted loved the outdoors, camping, and working for the weekend. "If you knew Ted, you knew he was a good time!" He had lots of stories and words of wisdom, which has and will carry on with his children. Lastly, MS is a terrible debilitating disease that ravages your body and with that being said, Ted fought like a warrior for over 25 years, never giving up. Ted is survived by his wife, Marian Litzenberg; and his son, Kenny (Kristin) Litzenberg; and his daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Potter. Also surviving are his sisters, Julie (Bob) Hockemeyer and Rosie (Paul) Richardson. Surviving grandchildren are Willow and Aspen Litzenberg; and Elliott, Veronica, and Maxwell Potter, along with several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Elaine; sister, Jane; and brother, Kerry; and step-father, Reynold Roemke. "The family would like to thank Staff at Ashton Creek for Ted's care over these past few years. Additionally, we say thank you to the Doctor, Nurses, and staff at Parkview Hospital who took good care of us all." In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Harlan Lions Club, P.O. Box 458, Harlan (IN 46743) - Attn: President Gerry Ehle) - as a few years ago they had helped Ted obtain a handicapped vehicle when he could not afford one. They also brought him Christmas baskets every year, which they do for people who are homebound. Please pay it forward in Ted's honor. A private viewing will be held for immediate family, followed by a celebration of life at a later time. In the meantime, "we invite you to listen" to Chris Stapleton's The SteelDrivers - "Where Rainbows Never Die," on YouTube and of course, Loverboy - "Working for the weekend."

Ted and I went through grade school together and he was a good friend. We were both 55 inches tall in third grade. I will always remember his kindness and smile. My condolences to all his family and friends.

Marian, I am so sorry for the loss of Ted. I know he had a physical struggle here on earth but I also know he gets a new body in heaven. Rejoicing over that! Ted was so helpful to me when I lived in the trailer court near to you guys. He was so generous with his time and was always fun and helpful when planning our class reunions. I am praying that you can grieve peacefully. Condolences to Kenny and Jennifer. Your Dad was a wonderful man.
