Ted Luckett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chism Family Funeral Home - Vine Grove on Mar. 4, 2026.
Theodore Carl "Ted" Luckett, 76, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, passed away March 4, 2026, leaving a legacy of service, leadership, compassion, and unwavering love for his community and family.

Ted was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Roy and Charlotte Luckett. He graduated from Bishop David High School and devoted many years to public service, retiring as a Detective Sergeant from the Louisville Division of Police.

A lifelong lover of sports, Ted founded the Louisville Police football team and remained active in athletics throughout his life. He played football, basketball, and softball with passion and heart, and for over 50 years he coached and mentored young men in basketball and football. Ted's relentless drive-on the field and off-impacted countless lives and helped shape the character of many who came through his programs.

Ted was also the founder of Blue Horizon (Camp Sky Hi), an organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged youth, with a focus on outreach in the west end of Louisville. His commitment to service extended far beyond the playing field, touching families and communities through compassion, guidance, and opportunity.

Later in life, Ted was called by the Lord to become a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church, with his final assignment at St. Christopher Church in Radcliff, Kentucky. His faith was central to his life, and he loved the Lord with his whole heart.

Ted cherished his time fishing and spending leisurely hours on the lake in his beloved pontoon. Those moments of quiet joy reflected his deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Ted was loved by many and truly embodied the spirit of a servant-to his family, his community, and his faith. Ted touched many lives for the better. He was truly one of a kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Charlotte Luckett.

Ted is survived by his devoted wife, Melinda Luckett; his sons Bryan (Kelly), Brandon, and Ted Jr. (Sarah); his grandchildren Mckinsey (Jordan), Maximilian, Macey, Cynthia, Sophia, Isabella, London, Lucas, Teddy III, and Ethan; great-grandchildren Sebastian, Emmy & Violet; his sisters Dotty and Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry forward his memory and the values he lived by.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Monday, March 9, 2026 and from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at St. Christopher Parish, Radcliff, KY. A rosary service will held at 5:00 PM, Monday at the St. Christopher Parish.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Luckett at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at St. Christopher Parish, followed by burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Pewee Valley, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Jolly, Tod Luckett, Jeb Boshart, Ben Price, Bradley Moore & Maximilian Luckett. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital & St. Christopher Catholic Church (Radcliff).

Ted's legacy of love, leadership, service, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Ted was a great person to know and listen too. He was and is an Angel now! We talked about visiting the Holy Land and I am sure he has been there now.

Everything Dennis Henry said about Ted is true. Not sure I could add much to that. Ted was a great man. I knew he was going to be a good police officer the first time I met him. He was assigned to the platoon I was on in the old 2nd District LPD as a recruit. We were friends from the start. When I was a Sgt in Metro and he was Det/Sgt in the 5th me and my guys worked with Ted and his guys. They made some great cases. Ted was loved by all. I will pray for Ted´s family.

Ted was a man of passion and loyalty to everyone from family, friends and even a stranger in need. Through life he always connected with everyone. He was compassionate in everything he did. The Good Lord has gained an angel. RIP Ted RIP
