Teddy Mack Atchley, Sr.

On Friday morning, September 19, 2025, the world became a little less bright. Teddy Mack Atchley, Sr., known to friends and family as Ted or Mack, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Casper, WY. He was surrounded by his devoted wife of 50 years, Janet, and his loving family.

Ted was born on September 15, 1943, in Olney, Texas, to Nannie Faye Taylor Atchley and James Henry Atchley. Much of his early childhood was spent on his grandparents’ farm near Olney, Texas, where he grew up alongside his older sister, Jimmie Lee Atchley, under the care and influence of his grandparents, Ashford Theodore “Ted” Taylor and Nannie Lee Foster Taylor. He also shared many formative years with his Aunt Naida Taylor Reaser and Uncle Everett Reaser. Uncle Everett, whose career carried him from the Texas oil fields to Wyoming and eventually to international work as an executive with Conoco, became an important role model in Ted’s life, alongside his grandfather “Ted,” who remained a steadfast presence throughout his youth.

After graduating high school, Ted proudly joined the United States Navy. He served as a Navy Corpsman, spending much of his time assigned to Marine units as a field medic. His service opened the world to him, with assignments in the Pacific, including Japan and the Philippines. The experiences and cultural exposure he gained during this time, just prior to the Vietnam War, would serve him well throughout his life and career.

Following his time in the naval service he lived in California where he started his family and then returned to Casper, WY and began working as a draftsman at WOTCO. Through hard work and dedication, he rose to the position of Vice President of Marketing and Sales. His career took him across the globe, with travels to most continents. He cherished these experiences, embracing various cultures and even bringing home recipes that he would later compile into a family cookbook, “Teddy Mack’s Recipes,” which also features beloved family recipes from Texas and New York.

He later founded his own successful marketing and sales company, Universal Marketing, continuing his world travels representing large mining equipment, much of it designed and built by Caterpillar. Ted was an honorable businessman with a strong work ethic, respected by all he served. If he said he would do something, he did it. He instilled this same sense of honor in his children. He was a man who would give advice when asked and would always help a friend, family member, or even a stranger in need.

Above all else, Ted loved his family. He wasn't a man who shared his feelings outwardly often, but when he did, his words were deeply meaningful. He always rose to the occasion for his children, offering wisdom when it was needed most.

Ted had a voracious appetite for reading and a remarkable ability to absorb what he read. His love for good stories shone through in his sharp wit and his talent for spinning tall tales of roaming the mountains with Jeremiah Johnson or riding the range with cowboys. His quiet humor could command an audience in any room, a trait he passed on to his children.

He also had a profound love for animals. On more than one occasion, after hearing on the local radio about dogs and cats in their final days at the shelter, he would simply go and bring one home. For many years, he cared for his horses with passion at his ranch on Squaw Creek Road.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nannie Faye Atchley and James Henry Atchley; his sister, Jimmie Lee Atchley; and his aunt and uncle, Naida and Everett Reeser.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children: Ted Atchley Jr. (Ramona), Paul Atchley (Jennifer Clifton), Matt Atchley (Suzi), Kristen Muzzy, Jan Muzzy, Mike Atchley (Jessica), Laura Nan Atchley (Matt Baker), Becky Atchley.

He was a dedicated grandfather to Joshua (Naomi), Tiffanie (Michael), Breanne, Kevin Thompson, Taylor, Nathan, Brittani, Autumn, Olivia, Sophia, Justin (Kristan), Yonny, David, Arianna, Gryffin.

He was also the proud great-grandfather of Bryson, Layken, Kinsley, Eleina, Rian, Chace, Rocco, and Aurora.

He was adored by his nieces and nephews, David Bradley, Julie Bradley, and Mark Zukas (Carmen).

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The Family invite all friends and family to join them for a Celebration of Life Friday October 10th, 2025 at 1pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers and gifts please donate to your Veterans Foundation of choice.
