Kay Sharon Atchley
October 26, 1937 – August 22, 2025
Kay Sharon Atchley, age 87, passed away on August 22, 2025, at Eagle Ridge Post Acute Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. She was born on October 26, 1937, in Delta, Colorado, to Donald Whiteside and Lillian Burch Whiteside.
Kay grew up in Delta, where she enjoyed horseback riding and spending summers on Grand Mesa. She graduated from Delta High School in 1956. She met the love of her life, Devon Atchley, and they were married on July 26, 1955. They celebrated 34 wonderful years together before Devon’s passing. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in Delta, CO and later moved to Grand Junction in 1987, where Kay spent the remainder of her life.
Kay was a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend. She worked for many years as a customer service representative at Mountain Bell in Delta and later as a sales associate at JCPenney in Grand Junction. Her warm and caring nature made her a cherished part of every community she was a part of.
Known for her love of baseball, Kay was a loyal fan of the Colorado Rockies and could always be found at a ballgame when she had the chance. She was also a passionate supporter of her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and school activities whenever possible. In her spare time, Kay enjoyed counted cross-stitch and created beautiful works of art. Above all, she will be remembered for faith, her deep devotion to her family and her unwavering support for those she loved.
Kay is survived by her sons: Kevin (Rita), Randy (Dhory) and David (Deborah) all of Grand Junction, CO; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Mullin, Sarah Kuhn, Sheena Koch, Tim Atchley, Josh Atchley, Morgan Atchley, and Melissa Rowenhorst; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Devon; her son, Alan; grandson, John; and her sister Donna Lee.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Service in Delta, CO, followed by a graveside service at the Delta City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Hope West Hospice.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hope West and the staff at Eagle Ridge Post Acute Care Center for their compassionate care during Kay’s final days.
