Being a city boy, and marrying a farmer's daughter, he got first*and experience at what life on a farm was like. One of those experiences was the packing of newly sheared wool into wool bags. He also discovered that steak and eggs was a breakfast item when you worked .on a farm.
He served 22 years as a munition weapons specialist on the F-4 Phantom fighter jet, stationed at different bases in America, Clark AFB in the Philippines, Hahn AFB in Germany, and two tours in Vietnam.
After retiring from the service, he moved back to Delta. To keep from getting bored, he starting working for Skyland Foods, Renfro's Furniture, Dana Chevrolet and Gibsons. Because he had a heavy New York accent, some Bingo players thought he was speaking a different language, When winters in Delta became more than what him and his wife could handle, they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where most of their children and grandchildren lived.
During his in Texas, him and his wife volunteered at the local senior center, delivered meals and helped with the distribution of food bank boxes. On their 50th wedding anniversary they celebrated at the Kirby Senior Center and then went on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. They also enjoyed the "Dinner and Theater" programs that they attended almost monthly at the Ft. Sam Houston Army Base with family and friends.
After the death of his wife, he moved back to Delta, living out the rest of his life just down the road from his oldest son. He is survived by sons Thomas Ill (Debbie), Richard (Lisa), daughter Joyce Ortega, 4 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren.
