Teddy Curry (Nee: Maines) Obituary

Teddy Jacqueline “Jackie” Curry (Nee: Maines)  of Darlington, MD, passed away peacefully on February 1,2026  at her home.

Born in Damascus, VA, she was the devoted wife of Franklin Curry for 73 years. She lived in her home on Nobles Mill Road for 63 years.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Frank, with whom she shared 73 wonderful years. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Falter of Auburn, WA; five children: Brenda Strong (Stanley) of Richland, NY, Sam Curry (Diane) of Street, MD, Charlie Curry (Julie) of Delta, PA, Vicki Smith (Jimmy) of Darlington, and Gary “Pete” Curry of Darlington; nine grandchildren: Candace Millikan, Joe Strong, Jackie Colleen Edwards, Dana Curry, Brian Curry, Kristen Curry, Ben Curry, Jimmy Smith, and Brenda Smith; 17 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Blanch Maines; sisters, Dorothy Rush and Nancy Burns; brothers, Charles Maines Jr. (June), Herbert “Hub” Maines, Hobert “Kyle” Maines, Hubert “Sam” Maines, and Blaine Lipford; and her grandson, Joshua Adam Smith.

Jackie was a multi-talented gal with a knack for accomplishing anything her artistic heart desired. She loved the theater and performed in many plays at the Tidewater Players, including Poison for Two, My Dear, Phantom of the Opera, Dogs, Nunsense, Rented Christmas Family, A Christmas Carol, The Clod, the Aberdeen Historical Pageant, Oklahoma at the Covered Bridge Theater, and Harriet’s Happy Halloween at the Harford Dance Theater. She designed and made many of the costumes for these productions, as well as costumes for her children’s school plays at Dublin Elementary and Southampton Middle School, and for anyone in need of a last-minute Halloween costume. She also served on the Board of Directors at Tidewater Players.

Jackie designed and built floats for Harford Insulation for the Bel Air and Darlington parades. She wrote and directed a family Christmas play, The Birth of Jesus, and handmade all the costumes for the production.

Her many talents included oil painting, pencil drawing, piano playing, quilting, sewing, and flower gardening. Her favorite summertime activity, however, was mowing on her Ferris zero-turn mower.

Jackie loved sightseeing, especially along her childhood road, Chestnut Hill, and riding around to look at Christmas lights. The talent she was most proud of was writing and publishing her book, The Path That Leads To Home.

Jackie and Frank’s home was always open to anyone and everyone. Many nieces, nephews, and their children’s friends spent time there because it was the “fun” place to be. One of Jackie’s favorite sayings was, “Oh, just let them be kids and do what they want as long as they don’t get hurt.”

A viewing will be held on February 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church on Cedar Church Road in Darlington, MD.
