Teddy Lamarr Gruver went to be with his lord and Savior on November 20, 2024. He fought a year-long battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home with in home care by Lorien at Home health care service and family.
Teddy entered this world on January 2, 1939. Born in Bryan Ohio. He was the fourth child of 5. Son of the late Paul R. Gruver and Dorothy Carrick Gruver.
Teddy was the loving husband of 60 years to his beautiful late wife Susan Sadler Gruver. He was the loving father to Alison Gruver Anderson along with husband Glenn Anderson and father to Amy Gruver Ross, wife of the late Rudy W. Ross. Grandfather of Patrick, Meghan and Katie Anderson, Casey, Shelby and Jeremy Ross.
Teddy was proud to serve in the United States Air Force- Air National Guard as a medical service specialist and was honorably discharged. For his early education he attended Columbia City High School in 1957. Graduated from the School of Radiology (Degree RT) from Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore Maryland in 1959. Was Tech in Charge of JHH Angiogram section from 1959 to 1962. He married Susan S. Gruver on Thanksgiving Day November 23, 1961 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Pikesville, Maryland.
Teddy's entrepreneurial skills started from the young age of 10, selling fish worms and crickets under the name of Ted's Bait to delivering the Columbia City Post and Mail newspaper for 5 years. After working at JHH, he worked as a Technical Representative for Wills X-Ray Supply Company Baltimore Maryland from 1962 to 1977. He then started his own X-ray supply company, Ted Gruver X-Ray Inc. and a computer supply business, Gruver Computer Products from 1977 to 1988. He retired at the age of 50 years old on December 31, 1988.
Teddy was an avid outdoorsman. He found relaxation attending to his flower gardens and feeding the birds. He ran many marathons, hiked the C & O Canal and 550 miles of the Appalachian Trail. He enjoyed kayaking and was a collector of stamps and coins. Teddy was very interested in genealogy and formed The Gruver Family Tree tracing the family roots. Teddy and Susan traveled the USA in their Airstream Motor Home and spent 30 years living in their Naples Florida home as snowbirds. Together they traveled to Europe many times and took 38 adventurous cruises.
His accomplishments were many, some include, he founded the Columbia City High School Alumni Association. Was Co-Founder and President of the Independent X-ray Dealers Association. He was president of the Maryland Society of X-ray Technicians. Teddy formed a chapter of US Too in Naples Florida after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008. He was president of the Central Maryland Unit Airstream Club (WBCCI) and was Vice Chairman of all golf tournaments in Naples Florida for 7 years.
Teddy was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He extended his kindness through the years with donations and volunteer efforts to various organizations. Most notable was decades of being involved with The Knights of Columbus.
His greatest pride was his family and strong work ethic. That was vital to his success throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday January 2, 2025 in the Evan Funeral Chapel. Located at 3 Newport Drive Forest Hill, Maryland.
