Terence G Towers, age 82, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on April 4, 2025. Terence (Terry) was born to Paul and Wilma Towers on October 2, 1942 in Marshall, MO. Terry married Janice (Grieve) Towers on June 6, 1964 enjoying over 60 years together!
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Wilma Towers and his sister Susan Nelsen. He is survived by his wife Janice Towers; daughter Karen Parkison and her husband Don; son Scott Towers and his wife Tracy; 5 grandchildren (Joshua, Kayla, Chelsea, Rebecca and Jackson); 3 great grandchildren (Cadence, Oliver and Lucy), and extended family and friends.
Terry accepted Christ as his savior as a child and was a dedicated Christian, devoting his time and energy to the Church. He was blessed to be a part of several church bodies through his life, developing lifelong friendships in each. He was an active member of Parkview Christian Church in Springfield for almost 29 years, where he was an elder, teacher, encourager, brother and volunteer. The family and friends at Parkview have been an immense blessing to Terry and Janice.
Terry was a graduate of the Missouri School of the Mines (a.k.a. Missouri S&T, University of Missouri-Rolla) with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a hard-working and respected colleague. His employment took him and his family to live in KY, SD, ND, and MO. He enjoyed the work, had some interesting and unique opportunities to learn and travel, but always spoke of the people in those jobs and locations.
Terry enjoyed participating in and watching sports, passing on his frustration with golf and his love of baseball, especially the Cardinals, to his kids. He enjoyed eating with friends and family, especially when pizza, milkshakes, pie, or cookies were on the menu. He shared his love of and mentored in baking bread, cinnamon rolls, lemon meringue pie, and snickerdoodles, among other treats. Holiday gatherings were one of his favorite things because of who was there, not what was on the table. His laugh was treasured, and the goal of many interactions around the game table and meal table.
Terry had a love of music throughout life. He was an accomplished singer and used his talent in the church participating in choirs, leading worship, and in solos and small group performances. He was also active singing in choral groups in the communities where he lived. He attended live music performances, was an avid collector of CDs (thank you nephew Troy!), appreciated the talents of others in several music genres; he enjoyed listening to music to his last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to the memorial fund at Parkview Christian Church at 1362 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, MO 65807
Services for Terry will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2025 in the funeral home.
