Teresa Jane Shockley

Teresa Jane Shockley (born Teresa Jane Hall), 63, of Frankford, Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026 surrounded by close family.

Teresa was born December 1, 1962, in Salisbury, Maryland. She spent her early years in Salisbury and Delmar before her family moved to Pine Street in Georgetown, Delaware. She graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1980 and married the love of her life, Eddie Shockley, that same year. Teresa later moved to Frankford, where she spent most of her life on Eddie's family farm known as "Shockley Hill," surrounded by family and the community she loved.

Teresa lived a life defined by compassion, creativity, and service to others. She was a fierce advocate for people in need, including the homeless, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals battling cancer, and veterans. She regularly prepared meals and gathered supplies for families experiencing hardship and found countless ways to quietly support people during difficult times.

Inspired by her favorite poem, "The Dash" by Linda Ellis, Teresa created her own small outreach effort called Teresa's Dash. Through this effort she organized a mobile trailer filled with clothing and supplies for those in need, maintained a blessing box with her niece Kinsley, and kept a shed stocked with food and donated items so she could quickly assemble care packages for families in crisis. Helping others was simply part of who she was.

For the last eleven years, Teresa also shared her heart with students as a mentor at Southern Delaware School of the Arts and later at Mariner Middle School. She believed deeply in encouraging young people and making sure every student felt seen and supported.

Teresa was also a talented artist for many decades. She loved creating handmade pieces that often became gifts for friends and family. Many homes hold something she made, and many Christmas trees still carry ornaments she lovingly crafted.

She was incredibly proud of her son, Frank, and deeply supported him through his journey from his early years into college and graduate school. She loved being part of his world as a teacher and later as a school counselor, always cheering him on and celebrating his accomplishments. Some of Teresa's happiest memories were traveling and going on cruises with her husband Eddie, her son Frank, and her son-in-law Art. She also cherished their meals spent together with Norma, and the time spent as a family during the holidays, especially Christmas.

In recent years, Teresa found renewed joy reconnecting with her Sussex Central High School Class of 1980 classmates. Those friendships brought her laughter, support, and meaningful connection, especially during the last many years of her life.

Teresa will be remembered for her empathetic spirit, her passion for helping others, and the way she made people feel loved. She was kind, laid-back, generous, and the kind of person who would do anything for her family, friends, and even strangers.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Eddie Shockley; her son, Frank Shockley, and his husband Art Henry; her siblings Norma Hall, David Hall, Eleanor Ireland, Everett Hall, Dawn Hall Williams, and Richard Hall; her many beloved nieces and nephews; her cherished Class of 1980 classmates; and a large extended family of cousins, in-laws, and friends who were like family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Donovan; her grandmother, Irene Prettyman; her uncles Walter Prettyman, Richard Parsons, and William Prettyman; her cousin, Vicki Prettyman, and many other beloved family members.

At this time, no formal services are planned. The family will share details soon about a celebration of Teresa's life lovingly titled, "Teresa's Dash Bash," where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate the way she lived her dash

Teresa lived her "dash" fully-filling her years with kindness, creativity, service, and love for others. The lives she touched will continue to carry her light forward. May we honor her by living our own dash with the same courage, compassion, and love she showed every day.
