Terry Bonner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory - Phenix City from Jan. 21 to Jan. 22, 2024.
Terry Allen Bonner, age 75, of Phenix City, Alabama, formerly of Carrollton and Bremen, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 15th, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Terry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Terry was born April 3, 1948, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Jonathan Leon Bonner and Bertha Jean Carter Bonner. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1966 and maintained a close family-like connection with his classmates until his death. They cherished many memories with the OYC, keeping fables within the 50-mile rule. He graduated from West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia) in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in biology. He served honorably in the U. S. Marine Corps. He worked and retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carrollton. In his leisure time, he had many interests, including gunsmithing, collecting guns, target shooting, motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons, collecting and driving Corvettes, boating (yachting), and listening to good music like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Janis Joplin, and other classics. His love of music began early in life. He was a member of the Trojan Marching Band, and later, he joined a rock and roll band called The Playboys with several classmates. Terry loved his family and spending time with them. He also loved his family dogs. He is remembered as a man who "did so much." Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Jim Bonner. In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Marie Vinyard Bonner, children Jesse Boone Bonner and Matthew Ronald Copeland (fiancé Gina Cobb and daughter Katelyn Arp), granddaughter Ashlynn Grace Bonner, and sister-in-law Nancy Bonner, niece Beth (Scotty) Redmon and nephew, Jim (Luz) Bonner, and several great nieces and great-nephews.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to the Vinyard and LeBlanc families for the continuous loving care given to Terry in every hour of need.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 27th, from 1:00 PM until the hour of service. A memorial service to celebrate Terry's life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home.
