Terry L. Darakis, 79, of Wakeman, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
He was born on March 6, 1946, in Birmingham, England, and grew up in Amherst, Ohio. Terry graduated from Firelands High School and went on to earn his degree with honors from Heidelberg College.
Terry’s professional life reflected his many talents and passions. He worked in sales and photography restoration for Parke Camera in Amherst and Loomis Camera in Elyria, and also taught photography at Lorain County Community College. His love of photography led him to shoot professional sports in Atlanta. Over the years, he also worked as a real estate agent and for the Animal Protective League. In his younger days, he co-owned Stars Disco in Lorain with his brother.
A man of wide-ranging interests, Terry had a lifelong love of classic cars-building them, showing them, and admiring the craftsmanship behind them. He was passionate about photography, music, and synthesizers, and he cherished the beauty of nature and animals. In recent years, he especially enjoyed the peaceful wildlife and wooded surroundings of his home near the Vermilion River. He also loved returning to his birthplace in Birmingham, England, making several memorable trips back over the years.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Barbara Katkic of Amherst.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Joyce (née Hughes) Darakis, and his brother, Christopher Darakis.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be announced at a later date on Riddle Funeral Home's website.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to any local animal shelter.
