Terry Kirschenman

Terry Kirschenman, 67, of Huxley went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 9, 2023. Terry was a beloved son, grandson, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many.
Public visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Ankeny Free Church, 118 NW Linden St. in Ankeny. Funeral services will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the church with a reception to follow. Terry will be laid to rest at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Menno Cemetery in Menno, South Dakota.

Terry Lynn Kirschenman was born August 29, 1956, in Freeman, South Dakota to Willard and Loretta Kirschenman. He grew up in Menno, SD and graduated from Menno High School in the Class of 1974, where he enjoyed playing sports (track, basketball and football). Terry had quite the love for baseball. He coached Little League, played on Menno's baseball team, and redesigned the Menno baseball field.
Terry furthered his education at South Dakota State University with a Bachelor's and Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. While in college, Terry met the love of his life, Linda Kay Wilding. They were united in marriage on December 22, 1980. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Ankeny, Iowa where Terry began his career as a Civil Engineer with the State of Iowa. He worked for 41 years for the State. Throughout his career, Terry made significant contributions for the betterment of water in Iowa. He tirelessly worked to protect water quality and helped countless Iowa communities. Terry belonged to the American Water Works Association. Additionally, he was an integral part of the Great Lakes - Upper Mississippi Board, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing the 10 states standards, leaving an indelible mark on that region.
After settling in Huxley, IA in 1982, Terry and Linda were blessed by God with two children, Mark and Susan. Terry cherished being a father and husband. He loved spending time with his family, vacationing in the mountains; coaching; golfing; attending sports functions, concerts and movies; cheering on Iowa State football and basketball; playing Catan; gathering with extended family and friends; and attending church.
Terry was a quiet and kind, faith-filled man. He always put others first. He was dependable, reliable and enjoyed serving others. He was greatly influenced in his life by his grandmother who taught him how to pray; his parents who took him to church and taught him to walk uprightly; his Sunday school and catechism classes; the movie "The Cross and the Switch Blade"; men's Bible studies; and godly friends and mentors throughout his lifetime. One of the last things that he wanted everyone to know was that he loved Jesus. He was heaven bound.
Terry will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Linda Kirschenman; children, Susan (Nic) Cool, and Mark Kirschenman; granddaughter, Cora Lynn Cool, and soon to be grandchild; mother, Loretta Kirschenman; and siblings, Gloria (Mike Lien) Funk, Connie (Alan) Emmert, and Daryl (Brenda) Kirschenman. He is, also, survived by his aunt, Helen Howell, mother-in-law, Gladys Wilding; sister-in-law, Doris (Karl) Hermann; brothers-in-law, Charles (Laura) Wilding, and David (Michelle) Wilding; and countless other extended family members and dear friends.
Terry was preceded in death and welcomed in heaven by his father, Willard Kirschenman; a precious unborn grandchild; father-in-law, Lawrence Wilding; and many other beloved family members and friends.
