Terry courageously fought to keep the old man out for longer than anyone thought humanly possible and on Sunday, September 14, 2025, he peacefully surrendered himself into the merciful arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He died surrounded by those he loved dearly, knowing he was an abundantly blessed man. Terry was 75 years young, and despite all his health battles, he could light up any room with his larger-than-life presence and ability to turn anything into a joke just to make someone smile.
Born in Scott County and raised in Harrison County, Terry relished his country boy roots and was most at home on all the backroads in and around Leesburg. He was born on Monday, May 22, 1950, to the late Charles William, Jr (endearingly known as Red) and Louise Morris Perraut. Terry spoke often of his parents and how much he missed them; so, it lifts our heavy hearts to think of their joyous reunion in heaven.
Nothing would light Terry up faster than talking about his family. Terry proudly leaves behind three children, Tera (Lucas) Doyle of Roswell, GA; Joe (Melissa) Perraut of Lexington, KY and Neil (Kenzi Slusher) of Cynthiana. He was the eldest of his siblings, leaving behind two brothers, Donnie and Chuck Perraut, both of Paris, KY. Terry was affectionately called Poppa/Poppy by his granddaughters: Macy and Marielle Doyle of Decatur, GA; Ava, Savannah and Lily Perraut of Lexington, KY and Camryn Perraut of Cynthiana. He was also adopted by Nathan, Tammy, Allison and Nycolas Conley of Cynthiana, a family he deeply treasured.
The Perraut/Morris clan runs deep and wide and Terry enjoyed being a nephew, uncle and cousin to them all. He never met a stranger and would open his home, his heart and his fridge to anyone needing a place to rest, relax and fellowship. He had many special friends and neighbors who were family in his book and a few honorable mentions, in lieu of pallbearers, are Corey Sears, Randy, Tommy and Cathy Gregory, Louise Cook, Michelle Farley, Sherman Combs, Bobby and Audrey Bryant, Boyd Marx and Bonnie Sebastian.
Terry attended Connersville grade school and graduated from Harrison County High School in 1968. He was a jack of all trades and followed his passion wherever it led him. From farming to bulldozing, auto repair to flooring…you name it, and he has probably done it. Terry took pride in his work and in doing what he could to lend a helping hand, especially to those in need or down on their luck. He was a member of Leesburg Christian Church and enjoyed his bible study fellowship. He truly had a heart for people and loved inviting anyone that would join him to church.
Terry had a zest for life that was insatiable and a laugh that was contagious. Refusing to be defined by his age, his disease or his problems, Terry worked hard to "not let the old man in". He went when he didn't feel like going and courageously embraced whatever the day had to offer. He was as stubborn as a mule and as tough as pig iron. God help the person that told him he couldn't do something as his will and determination were unmatched.
As tough as Terry was, he loved even harder. He knew we were all sinners trying to make it a troubled world and he would meet you right where you were at, without judgement or prejudice. All were welcome in Terry's world, and he would do whatever he could to lift your spirits and leave you better off than he found you. To know him was to love him, and you sure couldn't forget him. Terry's love left its mark.
Terry's wish was to be cremated, and he did not want any funeral services. He was not big on formality, but he loved to laugh and make others smile. If you want some way to honor him, get together with your family and friends, enjoy some cold libations and share some funny stories or jokes. Laugh until your belly hurts. Go help a neighbor or person in need. Take a friend fishing. Do something kind or courageous. Invite someone to lunch or to church. These are the things that will help keep Terry's memory alive and strong and give him the biggest smile in heaven.
