Terry Frank Satterwhite died on October 10, 2025, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a brief illness at the age of 79. Terry was a creative thinker who loved to argue a point, with a keen sense of humor and a love for his family. His wit and desire for debate will be greatly missed.
That mix of characteristics was evident throughout Terry's life, driving him to achieve academic success, from being salutatorian of his high school class in San Marcos to earning his undergraduate degree (1971) and a Master's in Accounting (1977) at the University of Texas at Austin. In Austin, he met his former wife and the mother of his children, Robin Rabun, and they were married in 1974.
After marriage, they moved to Colorado, where he worked for the accounting firm Touche Ross. He entered law school at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served on the Law Review. After earning his Juris Doctor in 1980, Terry practiced tax, estate, and contracts law as an attorney in private practice in Colorado Springs for 20 years. Terry worked hard at his law practice and also actively managed his real estate holdings.
Terry was born in New Braunfels, Texas, on April 23, 1946, and raised up the road in San Marcos. Though always a Texan at heart, Terry built a full life in Colorado Springs, where he and Robin raised their two daughters, Emilie and Ellen. Their lives revolved around their home in the Old North End, First Lutheran Church, volunteering, traveling around the U.S. and Canada, and their daughters' educations and activities.
Terry taught his daughters how to argue a point -- both large and small -- how to work hard, mow a lawn, read an income statement, file their taxes, change a fuse, haul junk, drive, change a tire, look for the best gas price, haggle a deal, and be charitable to those around them. A proud American, Terry believed in the rule of law, the rights of all people, and the duties of citizenship, and he was careful to pass these values on to his children.
Curious and witty, Terry loved a joke, a pun, and a play on words; even better if they were worked into a spirited discourse on politics, financial topics, real estate, current events, or who had the best barbecue.
Terry is survived by his former wife Robin Rabun; daughters Emilie Lamb (Thomas) and Ellen Satterwhite (Christopher James); granddaughters Catherine Lamb and Eleanor Lamb; and numerous beloved nephews, nieces, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Emilie Satterwhite, and his three sisters, Gladys Lyon, JoAnn Childress, and Shirley Smith Harris.
