Terry A. Wright 83 Years Old of Akron, Ohio passed peacefully Jan. 7th 2024 to be with the Lord and his wife of 61 years, Rosemarie (Falcone) Wright. He was born Feb. 5th 1940 in Shirley, W.V. to Richard G. Wright and Nina Belle (Davis) Wright.
He was a hard working man who never quit or gave up. He was a loving family man, a loyal and dependable friend who could always be counted on to help anyone out. He was creative, artistic, fair and honest.
Terry was a member of a family of truck drivers, being an Owner Operator for many years.
He enjoyed driving stock cars at Barberton Speedway for several years.
He was a guitar playing Country Western singer who has been inducted into the Akron Hall of fame as a member of The Ohio Country Western Music Association. He was written up by the trucking magazine, Overdrive as The Singing Owner Operator. He was the lead singer for Terry Wright and The Country Buckeyes and Terry Wright and The Nashville Sounds. He traveled the eastern part of the United States and Canada singing at truck shows, sometimes joined by stars such as Dave Dudly. Terry played the Wheeling Jamboree on the same show as Don Williams. He brought Ernest Tubb to Akron to sing at the Possom Holler North Venue,that he had named after George Jones' club, Possom Holler. His last band to sing with was The Hot Cargo band having sung with many wonderful musicians along the way at many locations including The Red Pepper Steakhouse, The Shamrock, and the South Akron Orioles. He was known to always be willing to play for a worthy benefit and did numerous times. Terry was still singing at the Eagles club on Tuesday nights up until his death.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, his parents and his brothers Richard L.,Fred, Frank and (Patrick) Lane.
Terry is survived by his children Terry Jr (Jackie) Wright, Brenda (Terry) Stalnaker, Scott (Susie) Wright; Grandchildren Travis, Sophia, Jack, Dustin and Hannah, 3 great grandchildren Maura, Myla and Tripp; Sisters-in-Law, Leslie Wright and MaryJane Falcone; many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
