Tha Chaiyawong, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Traditional Buddhist Rites will take place Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, October 17, 2025 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Tha was born on June 18, 1958, in a small rural village in Laos to his parents, Phan and Bunthan Chaiyawong. He grew up alongside his brothers Chanla, Loy, Keuy, Noi, and Koud surrounded by family, tradition, and the simple joys of village life.
Tha was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for family was the center of everything he did. He was known for his kind heart, gentle nature, and endless patience. Tha loved sharing stories from his past and teaching his family Japanese lessons that always came with laughter and love.
In his free time, Tha enjoyed playing the guitar and expressing himself through music. He was a proud member of the band Black Eagle, where his talent and passion for music shone through every performance.
Tha is survived by his loving wife, Lammone Sihachak; his children, Bounsane Sihachak, Phet Sihachak-Yang, Peun Sihachak-Khamdaeng, Malisa Sihachak, and Samantha Chaiyawong-Chavez; his brothers, Chanla, Noi, Keuy, and Koud Chaiyawong; and his 10 cherished grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phan and Bunthan Chaiyawong; his brother, Loy; and his beloved granddaughter, Princess.
Tha will be remembered for his strength, warmth, and the way he made everyone around him feel loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
