Theda Wakita Mitchell passed away on January 9, 2025, joining her husband Homer ("Spike"). She also joins her older sister Jean, younger sisters Ruby and Judy, younger brother, Charlie, and beloved mother Retta, with whom Theda moved to the Orondo area from Centrahoma. Oklahoma, during World War II. Packing up all of their belongings into their truck, the family traveled west and then north, working their way to Central Washington.
Theda inherited her mother's love of gardening and worked with Retta to grow a beautiful vegetable garden while flowers- especially roses-flourished at home. After marrying Spike, Theda, her daughter Caroline, and her son Dan were joined by six more children: Ed, Terry, Donna, Scott, Kelly, and Helen.
The big family - including the many subsequent grandchildren, enjoyed the benefits of Theda's love of cooking and baking. She also loved needlework, especially quilting with her sisters and mother.
Always an outdoors woman, Theda enjoyed riding her bicycle to work and to her mother's garden and cross-country skiing when the snow fell. She and Spike also enjoyed watching the birds gather at their birdhouses and feeders in their backyard.
A lifelong caregiver after a career as a nurse, Theda kept a warm home where her grandchildren loved to visit and learn the arts of sewing and gardening. She was always ready to head to a music concert or sporting event to cheer on her grandkids or create beautiful pieces to share at craft fairs, especially at her church. Theda's faith served as a bright pillar of guidance.
Theda leaves behind a large family who will miss her delicious treats, her masterful stitchwork, but most of all: her unceasing warmth, love, and humor that brought joy and light to every room she graced.
A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10:00 am. Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
