Baker Funeral Home - DanvilleTheda Nell Stewart, age 96 of Pittsboro, IN. passed away on Sunday March 29, 2026. Theda was born on September 23, 1929 near North Salem, IN. to George Dewey Hawkins and Ressie Crosby Hawkins. She graduated from North Salem High School in 1947 and married Ben Stewart of North Salem in July 1948, settling in Danville, IN. where they raised their family. Theda retired from Huntington Bank in 1991 after 25 years of service. She was a member of the North Salem Christian Church.
Theda enjoyed cross stitching, painting and loved to travel. Before her grandchildren graduated high school, along with her daughter, Susan, Theda took each one of them on domestic trips across our great country.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961, sister Nathalie Leathers, and son-in-law Craig Blackwell. Theda leaves behind her loving family: children Cathy (Ron) Marion, Rick (Rosemary) Stewart, Susan Stewart and Peggy Blackwell. Grandchildren: Heather (Robert) Parsons, Ryan Marion, Beth Buyse (Mike) and Casey Reed (Bobby). Great-grandchildren: Julianne, Gretchen, Adrian Parsons, Lily and Alden Marion, Colin, Jude and Beau Buyse, Scarlett and Cooper Reed.
Friends and family will gather on Thursday April 9, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Baker Funeral Home, Danville. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Ben in Fairview Cemetery, North Salem, IN.
