Thelma Jean Buffalo-Doney, 78, of Lewistown, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Lewistown, surrounded by her loving family. On August 9, 1947, Thelma Jean was born to Edward Buffalo, Sr., and Margaret Rides Horse in Crow Agency, MT. Thelma was the eldest of eight, six of whom had already gone home with our Lord Jesus…Thelma Jean was raised by her Aunt Marie and Uncle Floyd Morrison, Sr. Her grandparents, James and Sarah, were also a big part of her upbringing.
Thelma Jean's first marriage to Rueben Montez Sr. blessed her with four sons, Rueben, Barry, Raymond, and Michael. Eventually, she found love again in Wayne Doney, whom she met in Billings, Montana. Wayne and Thelma were blessed with two children, Patrick and Patricia.
Thelma as a diligent housekeeper and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Lewistown for many years.
Thelma Jean is survived by her children: Patrick (Joann) Doney and Patricia Doney, both of Lewistown; as well as her sons Rueben Buffalo, Barry Montez, Raymond Montez, and Michael Montez, her sister, Theda Medicine Horse of Ashland, Montana, and her brother Curtis (Lottie) Medicine Horse of Lodge Grass, Montana. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Doney; sisters Ethel Birdhat, Mercellyn Buffalo Morrison, and Aleta Medicine Horse, and brothers Edward Buffalo, Jr., Virgil Buffalo, Sr.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 12 pm to 4 pm at Cloyd Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Malta City Cemetery.
