Thelma G. Harrell
A life well lived and spirit touched many, Thelma Harrell, 98, passed away July 6th shortly after being with family and her pastor reading Psalms 30. “ Saying Jesus is ready to take care of you now”. She continues her journey with her Husband Tom and son Dace. She is survived by her son Scott Harrell and wife Paula, daughter Sue Harrell, daughter Landi Muller and husband Robert. Grandchildren Danielle Harrell, Shanita Harrison and husband Justin, Nina Harrell , Tommy Harrell and wife Susan, Sean Barton, Casey Barton and wife Jessica. Great grandchildren Dezmond Brundige, Ashley Valenzuela and husband David, Lucas Herrera, Peyton Harrison, Aiden Harrison, Collin Harrison, Feliz Gonzales, Lorenzo Gonzales, Asher Barton and Great Great Granddaughter Eliana Valenzuela. Thelma was preceded in death by Husband Thomas Harrell, son Dace Harrell, father Dace Gilbert, mother Mazie Gilbert, 3 brothers, and 6 sisters. Thelma was born in Jonesville Virginia growing up in the hollers there. She graduated high school in 1944 and left for Washington DC that same year to work for the FBI. There she met and married Thomas in 1946. Thomas and Thelma moved to Albuquerque,NM in 1952 to continue working for the FBI until 1958. She went to work for Sandia National Laboratories in 1965 and retired with outstanding service recognition in 1991. In 1956 Thomas and Thelma moved to Edgewood, the home she still owned at time of her death. There she helped raise cattle, horses, rabbits, pigs, chickens, pheasants and pinto beans. Thelma loved her family, friends and her many dogs. She loved to travel and spend vacations at Conchas Lake with family. She enjoyed gatherings at her home, having a drink in her back yard with family and friends and going to Church. She loved playing basketball in high school and for the FBI women’s Team. She enjoyed watching her son and granddaughters play basketball in school and watching the NBA and the UNM Lobos play. Her hobbies included painting, playing cards and bowling. In her last years she especially enjoyed reading and continued to watch basketball. Thelma was a free spirit , enjoyed life and made the best of any situation. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Celebration of her life is July 26th 1:00 pm at the Mountain Valley Church , 5 Dinkle Road, Edgewood, NM. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charitable foundation in need.
