THELMA "TOKE" HEIMAN
Thelma Clarine "Toke" Heiman, 92, died Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at The Ranch House in
Garden City, Kansas. She was born October 24, 1932, in Copeland, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Raymond & Thelma Oneita (Armentrout) Hoskinson.
Toke was raised on a farm Northeast of Copeland in a sod house until she was 9 years old. She attended Salem Valley Country School through the 3rd grade and later graduated from Ingalls High School in 1951. Toke then attended and graduated from the St. Catherine School of Nursing in 1953. On December 29, 1953, she married Eugene "Gene" Heiman in
Garden City, Kansas. They lived in Kennewick, Washington until Gene was discharged from the military before moving back to the Heiman farm in the Plymell area. They later moved to Garden City in 1996 where they have lived since. A lifetime homemaker and farm wife, Toke worked for a short time as a registered nurse after her marriage, and from 1979 to 1993, she became a Commodities Broker with GC Marketing which she co-owned with Gene.
Toke was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, St. Dominic Church Choir, and a founding member of the St. Dominic School Endowment. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the FSA Committee. In 2005, Gene and Toke were awarded the Farmer & Master Homemaker on Southwest Kansas, and in 2017, Toke was awarded the Mary M. Hopkins Award for Volunteer Service at Beef Empire Days. Toke started the Farmer's Market in Garden City and loved to cook, making jelly and cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed gardening and the commodity markets.

Garden City, KS, Jeanne & Dean Kleysteuber of Ridgedale, MO, Patricia & Ross Miller of
Garden City, KS, Jon & Rebecca Heiman of
Garden City, KS, and Chris & Traci Heiman of
Garden City, KS; a son-in-law Rick Albrecht of Wichita, KS; three siblings Dan Hoskinson of Siloam Springs, AR, Karol Lies of Minneola, KS, and Joe Hoskinson of
Garden City, KS; 22 Grandchildren; and 33 Great-grandchildren. Toke is preceded in death by her husband Gene who died on December 13, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters Karen Metzger and Kathleen Albrecht; a sister Margaret Renick; and 6 brothers Harold Hoskinson, Jr., Ron Hoskinson, Leonard Hoskinson, Richard Hoskinson, Chuck Hoskinson, & Melvin Hoskinson.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Ben Green and Fr. John Strasser as Celebrants. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Dominic Catholic Church or to the Kansas Honor Flight, both in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be given at
