Thelma was born to John Wigfall and Lila Ingram Wilder on April 13, 1928, in Sumter County, South Carolina. She was one of their six children. She graduated from Edmonds High School and later married George Hilton Poole in 1946.
George and Thelma were blessed with three children. Their daughter Judy Hanna (Wayne) makes her home in Greenville, South Carolina, while their son Rod (Diep) resides in Oviedo, Florida. Their daughter Krissie Degnan and son-in-law Tim Degnan preceded them in death in 2011.
Eight grandchildren include Elizabeth Pitts (Lee), Catherine Fleming (Ryan), Jonathan Hanna, Andy Poole, Eric Putt (Melissa), Ryan McDavid (Hope), Brittany Dinkins (David), and Caroline Williams (Clint). A total of eleven great-grandchildren has completed the family and brought much joy.
Remaining very active until fairly recently, Thelma enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, and spending time with her family. Also, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Sumter, SC, where she participated in her Sunday School class and various Bible studies.
A private graveside service to honor Thelma has been scheduled for 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter. Rev. Dr. David Dinkins will officiate.
