Thelma Stutes Obituary
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 am in St. Leo The Great Church for Thelma Stutes, 101, who passed away October 27, 2023 at her residence in Lafayette. Participating in the mass as lectors are Aaron Hambrick, Kathy Scherer, and Angie Martin; gift bearers: Ashlyn Vickers, Amber Moon and Deana Valenzuela. Music selections will be performed by Rafael Henry.
Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 4:00 - 9:00 pm; and resume Monday morning at 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 7:00 pm.
Survivors include three daughters, Melanie Stutes of Lafayette, Donna Stutes of Breaux Bridge, and Wanda Hill of Cullman, AL; three sons, Tim (Karen) Stutes of Prairieville, Greg (Ana) Stutes of Lafayette, son, Randy Stutes of Lafayette; nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Stutes; her parents, the former Nita Boudreaux Himel and Edras Himel; four sons, Richard Stutes, Kenneth Stutes, Ronnie Stutes, and Lanny Stutes; and two daughters, Patsy Stutes, and Ramona Scherer.
Thelma was born in Lafayette in 1921. She would have turned 102 on November 4. She was a dedicated and caring mother of twelve children, and a steadfast follow of Jesus. She was a member of The Miraculous Medal Society, The Chief Prayer Warrior for St Leo the Great Catholic Church Church and a Gold Star Mother. She was also consecrated and had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Morvant, Harold Scherer, Jeremy Martin, Marshall Ward, Marcus Ward, and Kami Ward. Honorary pallbearers include Tim Stutes, Greg Stutes, Randy Stutes, Joseph Johnfore, and John Mouisett.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Marc Fernandez, Dr. Stefani Acosta, Dr. Tho Pham and the Amedysis Home Health and Hospice Staff for their devoted care for our mother.
