Theodore John Arvanitis

Theodore John Arvanitis, lovingly known as Ted, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Knoxville, Maryland. He was 86 years old.

Born on May 8, 1939, in Athens, Greece, Ted proudly served in the Greek Coast Guard before immigrating to the United States in 1959 in pursuit of opportunity and a better future. He began his American journey working alongside his father on the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska. Through determination, skill, and an unwavering work ethic, he later established himself as a respected commercial painting contractor in Maryland, earning admiration for his craftsmanship, integrity, and sharp business sense.

Ted was a man of deep faith and immense pride in his Greek heritage. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a remarkable gift for bringing people together, often through laughter, storytelling, and heartfelt hospitality. His life was defined not only by hard work but by kindness, devotion to family, and service to his community.

He is survived by his son, John Arvanitis and daughter-in-law, Yana Arvanitis; his daughter, Eleni Hylton and Son-in-law, Kevin Hylton; and his beloved grandsons, Theodore "Teddy" Arvanitis, Nicholas Arvanitis, and Christopher Arvanitis.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Arvanitis; his mother, Eleni Arvanitis; and his sisters, Eugenia Mihas, Ariadne Arvanitis, Anna Kokolas, and Maria Kokkolas.

A Divine Liturgy will be held on February 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., with the service beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m., at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 West 7th Street, Frederick, MD. 21701. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring MD 20906.

May his memory be eternal. His legacy of faith, kindness, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who had the blessing of knowing him.
