Age 70, of Orchard Park passed away suddenly on January 13, 2026. Ted was born June 2, 1955, in Buffalo, NY. Ted attended polygraph school and practiced his profession until starting Buffalo Polygraph Services and then Backus Brothers Properties, where he began purchasing real estate. He accumulated a portfolio of properties centered in the Elmwood corridor. Ted loved playing tennis, fishing, and mostly being with friends and family. He had many talents and willingly shared them to help anyone he knew. Ted also served on the Boards of the Woodlawn Cemetery in Orchard Park and the Buffalo Tennis and Squash Club. Ted is survived by his beloved wife Leona (nee Nonnenberg) and sons Adam (Sarah) and Scott as well as the delightful Evelyn, his granddaughter. He is predeceased by parents Charles and Florence (nee Wolkiewicz) Backus and brother James (Catherine). He is also survived by siblings Georgette (late John) Romanelli, Patricia (late Joseph) Todaro, Lorraine (late Anthony) Peters, Charles (late Sandra), and Lawrence (Kathleen) and many nieces and nephews. The family will be present on Monday, January 19th from 4 to 7 pm at the F E Brown Sons Funeral Home, 6575 E. Quaker Street, Orchard Park, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 20th at 10 am in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 26 Thorn Avenue, Orchard Park, NY.
