Theodore Ivey

Theodore "Ted" Ivey, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Born in Greene County on September 2, 1936, he was son to the late Josephus Ivey and Pearl Hubbard Ivey.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to honor Ted's life will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Vernon Braswell and Rev. Dr. Tim Lipp officiating. Interment with military honors will conclude at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.
Ted is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Erna Ivey; his son, David A. Ivey and wife, Lyndee; his daughter, Pamela J. Ivey Grantham and husband, Tony; his grandchildren, Meredith R. Blakeley and husband, Matt, Taylor A. Grantham and wife, Ashley, Rachel I. Grantham, Noah R. Grantham and wife, Lillie, Katherine L. Maldonado and husband, Hayden, Jeremy Ivey and wife, Christina and Joshua A. Ivey; his great-grandchildren, Peyton Grantham, Nora Grantham, Lynley Grantham, AnnaRay Blakeley, Evelyn Blakeley, Harrison Blakeley, and Jeremy Ivey, Jr.; his sister, Jane Ivey Rose; and his brothers, Norwood Ivey, and Donald W. Ivey and wife, Nora.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Ivey Davis.
After graduation from high school, Ted joined the United States Air Force. He retired from active duty on June 30, 1974 having completed more than twenty years of service with nearly fourteen years being overseas service. His military medals are the Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Service Ribbons Consisting of Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Award, Air Force NCO Leadership Graduate and Small Arms Expert.
After military retirement in 1974, Ted gained full time employment with the state of North Carolina as an electronic technician at O'Berry Center. He retired from state employment in 1998 having completed twenty-five years and two months of creditable service.
After state retirement, Ted became involved with RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) and as a volunteer working with the Disabled American Veterans Organization.
Ted joined church and was baptized. As time passed, he became more active in his church serving as a Sunday School teacher along with volunteering for various tasks as the need arose.
