Theodore L. Olkowski

Theodore L. Olkowski, age 96, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at his son's residence.
Born in Wilmington, Ted was the son of the late Theodore Olkowski and Hattie Nagowska. Before joining the Army, Theodore worked in his father's bakery in Wilmington. Ted joined the Army and served in Japan from 1946 to 1947. He was awarded a Victory Medal as well as an Army of Occupation Medal. He acquired his education equivalency from Wilmington Public Schools in December 1947. He then went on to work at Huber's Baking company at 9th & Union street as a baker and he eventually retired from Huber's in 1986. Ted had several passions and hobbies. He loved to bake, often times creating one of kind desserts. He enjoyed traveling to Ocean City, Md. with the family for vacations where he spent the majority of the time fishing and being on the beach with his children. Ted loved to walk, and you could always see him walking on Maryland Ave. on his way to visit his sister. He also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Ted was pretty lucky when it came to the horses at Delaware Park and enjoyed going there with his daughter in law, when possible. One of his latest interests was watching Price Is Right on repeat. Most importantly he cherished his time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Ted is also predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Olkowski; daughter Joanne Mude; son Mark Olkowski; and grandson Nicky Mude. Theodore is survived by his sons Ted Olkowski Jr. and his wife Laverna of Hockessin, and Michael Olkowski of Wilmington; grandchildren Hannah, Kathleen, Michael, Angel, Daniel, Katelyn and Erin and 8 great- grandchildren.
A visitation for Theodore will be held from 10 A.M to 11 A.M. with funeral services beginning at 11 A.M. at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE. Interment to follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
