Theodore William Turnwald, age 82, of New Lothrop, died on May 7, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family.
Ted was born on August 23, 1940, the son of Theodore Turnwald and Edith Rieber, one of six siblings. He joined the army before his senior year of high school, shortly following the Korean conflict. He served his nation for three years. Following the service, he worked at General Motors for over 25 years. He married Dorothy Decatur in 1972, she predeceased him in 1984. On July 31, 1986, he married Nancy Morgan, whom also preceded him in 2016.
He was known around his neighborhood for being the back door mechanic for over 30 years. He had a passion for restoring old cars, he spent a lot of time travelling and camping. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Ted is survived by his children, William (Anna) Turnwald, Theodore (Tracy) Turnwald, Anthony (Diann) Turnwald, and Timothy (Yvette) Turnwald; siblings, Jeanne Pitt, John (Becky) Turnwald, Ken (Nancy) Turnwald, and Mary (Mark) Philcox; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his sister, Elaine; and grandson, Nathan William - Moore Turnwald.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at McGeehan Funeral Home in Chesaning, from 2:00pm - 8:00pm with a 6:00pm Rosary, and Vigil Service at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will take place at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11:00am, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will take place at St Michael Cemetery in Maple Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus and Maple Grove Fire Department in honor of Ted.
