Christopher Alan Wood

Christopher Alan Wood, of Chesaning, passed away on August 17, 2025, at My MI Hospital in Saginaw, surrounded by his loved ones.

Chris was born on February 23, 1945, in Hartford City, Indiana, to Ralph Wood and Jewell Saser. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1966 until 1968. He went on to graduate from Ball State University and built a career as a Packaging Engineer at Greif Box Company, where he worked for many years before retiring.

On February 20, 1999, Chris married Mary Jo Gewirtz, and together they shared 26 years.

Chris was deeply involved in his community. He served as President of the Chesaning Chamber of Commerce from 2000–2003, and as President of the Chesaning Area Fireworks from 2009–2013. He also drove school buses for Chesaning Schools and was always quick to lend a ride or helping hand to anyone in need.

Chris loved life and lived it with humor and heart. He had a gift for making people laugh with his stories and jokes, often breaking out in song or dance without hesitation. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Wood; stepchildren, Ashen Rehmann, Jayne Montarbo, and Ryan Fritz; grandchildren, Gabriel Rehmann and Elijah Montarbo; as well as many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Mike Wood.

A memorial service will be held 4PM on September 16, 2025 at McGeehan Funeral Homes, Martin Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1pm till the time of service.
