Martin "Marty" Charles Horger II, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Chesaning, Michigan, on August 5, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Marty was born on April 22, 1941, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Martin C. and Viola H. (Hogie) Horger. He married the love of his life, Victoria Bovee, and together they shared 62 years of marriage.

A hardworking and passionate man, Marty started working in a young age, he had a newspaper route.

Marty found joy in the simple things - over the years he had 72 breeder cattle, Horses's, pheasants, chickens, turkeys. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada. He always loved gardening, and maintaining a pristine yard. He loved sharing his flowers and vegetables to friends and family from his garden. He was also an avid bowler, but his favorite pastime was working with his hands. A skilled carpenter, he took pride in constructing homes and running his business. For over 60 years, he owned and operated Horger's Automotive, serving his community with dedication and integrity.

In his younger years, he did 501 ambulance runs, over 15 years. He trained people for nine years.

Marty was involved with the Chesaning Showboat at a young age. He started selling popcorn with the Boy Scouts and then selling programs, parking cars, organizing and maintaining the grounds and the boat. And he was on the four-man committee and he was the chairman in 1987. His headliner was Roy Clark.

Marty was deeply involved in his community. He served as secretary of the Rifle Association and was an active member of the Chesaning Conservation Club for 19 years. He competed and won many awards in trap shooting.

In 1987, he was honored as the first Chesaning Union High School alumnus to be recognized by the faculty. He was also a member of the President's Club of Autowares Corporation, the Knights of Columbus, and the Conservation Club.

Marty will be remembered by his wife, Victoria; his children, Heather (Joe) Kopecek and Brett (Monica) Horger and his grandchildren: Devan (Michael) Wasmiller, Marty, Ellie, Sarah, Christopher, Kalie (Danny) Nowicki and Joey. He is also survived by many extended family members and close friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Darren Horger and Martin Horger III. Who were wonderful sons who ran his company.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM at McGeehan Funeral Homes – Martin Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM, until the time of service.

Vicki, peace to you and your family. Marty was a friend along with some disagreements. I will miss his drop-in visits, along with his sharings. Marty was a community man and generous with his time and talents. His backhoe and snow plow helped many friends and people in need and wouldn't take a nickel for it. I think Marty was most content when he was "doing". He was proud of his greenthumb and keeping the house grounds so attractive. Many will miss his any place appearances.
Peace,Dale Tithof
