Albert D. Stealy Jr., 89, of Middlebury, passed away, with his family by his side, at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1935, in Elkhart to Albert Sr. and Glendora (Cook) Stealy. On May 14, 1957, in Angola, he married Joan Hall; she died Oct. 25, 2024. Surviving are daughter Charisse Fugate of Mchenry, Illinois; two sons, Dirk Stealy of Franklin, North Carolina, and Kurt (Brenda) Stealy of Crystal Lake, Illinois; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dave (Barbara) Stealy of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Albert was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a teacher, principal and administrator and retired after 32 years in the field of education. He coached basketball, football and track and was a graduate of both Ball State and Indiana University. He was a member of the Middlebury Men's Club and enjoyed gardening and golfing.
The family will hold private services at a later date. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa. Online condolences may be offered at millerstewartfuneral home.com.
