Theodore S. "Ted" Wheaton Sr.

Age 92, passed away Mon. Feb. 7, 2022 after living a long and full life. Born on Dec. 28, 1929 in Painted Post, NY; Ted was the son of the late, Leon & Mary Smith Wheaton. As a young man he served in the National Guard. Ted married the love of his life, Lola Teets in 1952 in Elmira. Together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. A loving father, Ted was so proud of their 9 children, Theodore Jr. (Mary) Wheaton, Kathy (Maurice) McNett, Edward (Laurey) Wheaton, Jeffrey (Jeri) Wheaton, David (Terry) Wheaton, Mary (James) Storch, Mark (Patty) Wheaton, Daniel (Tracey) Wheaton, James (Christine Buzako) Wheaton; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, a sister, Marjorie Meisinger; a brother-in-law, Martin Bleichner; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his grandson, Anthony McNett; brothers, Robert (Delores) Wheaton and Herb (Evelyn) Wheaton; sisters, Gertrude Bleichner and Winifred (Ned) Fay; brother-in-law, Herbert Meisinger. Ted was a past governor of the Loyal Order Moose Lodge #517. A gifted mechanic he enjoyed working on automobiles. He enjoyed dancing with Lola and taught Sunday School, was an active member of Elmira United Baptist Church, and was employed by Hilliard Corp. for many years. Family and friends will be received at New Beginnings Church, 300 E. Miller St. Elmira, NY 14904 on Mon. Feb. 14, 2022 between the hours of 1-3 p.m. Military honors will be accorded Mr. Wheaton at the church prior to the funeral service at 3:15 p.m. His friends and pastors, Pastor Arthur "Skip" Reed and Rev. James Crupi will co-officiate. The burial will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tue. morning at 11 a.m.
