Theresa Elmer

Theresa Elmer (Huy) passed away on April 24th, 2024. A 14-year multiple myeloma cancer survivor, Theresa lost her battle to dementia at the age of 87.
She was the beloved mother of John, Jr. (Bernadette) Elmer and Ed (Krystyna) Elmer; proud grandmother of Michael, Brian, and John; cherished sister of Josef (Ann) Huy; loving aunt to Steve (Heidi) Huy, Christine Huy (Frank Gieger); devoted great aunt to Eric, Jennifer, Mark & David.
Theresa was born in Hungary to ethnic Germans, Stefan and Rosalia (Haasz) Huy. After the untimely death of their father in 1944 (on his 40th birthday), Theresa and Josef were raised by Rosalia. In 1955 the entire family immigrated to the US following Theresa's marriage to John Elmer, Sr. in Germany.
In 2009, Theresa began her battle with the incurable multiple myeloma. A stem cell transplant gave her an unexpected new lease on life only to succumb to dementia, which ended up taking her life.
Theresa was dedicated to her family and a kind soul to everyone she met. Prior to her illness, she was an avid walker, gardener, baker and cook. She loved her family, her coffee and her desserts!
Honoring her wishes, Theresa has been cremated and will be laid to rest in a family plot next to her mother, Rosalia Huy.
Family and Friends are welcome to pay their final tributes to Theresa during a memorial on Friday, May 10th, 2024, between 9:00am-11:00am at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home 6250 N Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, IL. The memorial will be followed by a religious service at the funeral home at 11:00am and burial at St. Adalbert's Cemetery 6800 North Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, IL.
