Theresa Grabo Obituary

Theresa Nancy Stuccio Grabo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and accomplished nurse and nurse educator, was welcomed into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025.

A woman of profound loyalty and compassion, Theresa was called by her Catholic faith to a life devoted to the care of others. She answered that call through the nursing profession, where her dedication to others became her life's work. She was a proud graduate of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing and went on to earn her Ph.D. in nursing education from the University of Pennsylvania. At the pinnacle of her career, she was a beloved professor of nursing and instrumental in establishing the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing. Later in private practice, she continued this commitment, guiding patients with holistic care and expertise.

Though she formally taught generations of nurses how to care for the sick, her most enduring lesson was in how to care for one another, especially her family. Theresa shared 54 years of marriage with her husband, Daniel, whom she cherished and loved dearly. She was the proud and loving mother to Daniel Grabo Jr. (Janet Grabo) and Michael Grabo (Michael Cameron). But it was as a grandmother that she truly shined, offering her three grandchildren, Daniel III, Anthony and Camilla, an abundance of love, wisdom and joy, forever earning the title she cherished most: Grandma.

Together with her family, Theresa created a home in Pittston, filled with tremendous love. She upheld beloved Italian traditions and fostered a deep Catholic faith in her family. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, and her steadfast presence will be deeply missed.

Theresa is also survived by her sister Rose Marie Andrush (George), her brother Fred Stuccio (Arlene), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Serafino Stuccio.

The family expresses deep gratitude to Allied Services Hospice and all of her caregivers who provided compassionate care to her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Theresa's honor may be made to the HealthWell Foundation, 20440 Century Blvd., Suite 250, Germantown, MD 20874, https://www.healthwellfoundation.org.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Marello Roman Catholic Parish, 237 William St. Those who plan on attending are asked to go directly to church on the day of the funeral.

I met Theresa even before we entered first grade. We lived across from one another on LaGrange St. Lots and lots of memories of playing on LaGrange all day, every day. That was in the time before TV eventually seduced us all to go indoors. There used to be an old factory situated where she and her family built their house and it was mostly empty when we lived in the neighborhood. One night somebody was sure they saw a ghost in the second floor and all of us kids spent most of that evening terrified because we could see the white apparition through the window. (Turned out to be an old, white meat scale.) What fun we had, so many games to be played. R.I.P. my old, lovely friend.
