GRINNELL, Iowa - Theresa Jean Wissmiller died Saturday (Nov. 4, 2023) in Grinnell, Iowa.
Jean was born on Oct. 26, 1934, in Paxton, to Claude and Vera Stine. She graduated from Paxton High School as valedictorian and went on to receive B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Illinois, earning a membership in Phi Beta Kappa and a place on the Bronze Tablet for scholarship excellence.
She married William Louis Wissmiller of Gibson City in June 1957.
Jean taught English in high schools in Illinois before moving with her family to Grinnell, where she established a small business. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and the IGCA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann of Denver, Iowa; a son, Paul of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret of Madison, Wis.
Cremation has taken place at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, and no visitation is planned. A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
Donations in Jean's name may be directed to the Drake Library or to the League of Women Voters and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
