Therese Burgess Obituary

Therese Marie Burgess
Jacksonville - Therese Marie Burgess of St. Louis, Missouri formerly of Jacksonville, Illinois, peacefully passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, surrounded by her husband, Mike; her sister, Sandy; and daughter, Jaci.
Born December 29, 1958, in Springfield, Illinois, she was the daughter of James and Rosemary Bregenhorn Delaney. On June 20, 1980, she married her husband and best friend, Michael Burgess, who survives. Together they raised two children, Daniel (Tara) Burgess of Washington, DC, and Jaclyn (Ryan) Konz of O'Fallon, Missouri.
Therese's greatest joy in life was being "Yaya" to her beloved granddaughter, Charlotte Spindler and bonus grandchildren, Sophia and Logan Konz. She cherished every moment with them, delighting in their laughter, curiosity, and energy.
She is also survived by her siblings, Sandy (Steve) Bova, Ed (Julie) Delaney, Bob Delaney, Dan (Barb) Delaney, and Gary (Meg) Delaney; her aunt, Sister Rita Bregenhorn; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A graduate of Routt High School (1977) and the Passavant Hospital School of Nursing (1980), Therese went on to earn both undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from the University of St. Francis in Joliet. Her 38-year nursing career reflected her compassion and dedication, and she formed lasting bonds with colleagues and patients in Jacksonville and Springfield.
Therese found peace and joy in nature. She loved hiking in national and state parks, bird watching, and traveling with Mike throughout the United States and Europe. She also had a deep love for animals and often supported animal shelters and food pantries.
She was a woman of faith who believed in God's unfailing love, mercy, and faithfulness.
Therese and her family are grateful to the many friends and loved ones who walked alongside her during her journey. A special thank you is extended to her doctors, nurses, and hospice team, whose care and compassion brought comfort and dignity in her final chapter.
Per her wishes, Therese will be cremated, and her ashes will be placed in nature to honor her love of the outdoors. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 12 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to PAWS or the Jacksonville Food Bank. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
