Theron Leon Evans
With hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived, we say farewell to Theron Leon Evans, age 85, who peacefully passed away on October 24, 2024. His quiet strength, love of family, and unwavering faith made him a beloved presence in the lives of those who knew him.
Theron was born on January 3, 1939, to Boyd and Genevieve Evans in Honea Path, where he developed a lifelong work ethic and love for the outdoors. After years of dedicated service as a pipefitter, Theron found his true joys in life-casting a line while fishing and being his family's number-one fan at countless sporting events. His heart was never far from his home or his loved ones, and he lived every day with a quiet sense of purpose.
Theron is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patsy "PJ" Phillips Evans, with whom he built a family full of love. Theron also leaves behind his three children: DeWayne Evans (Connie) of Belton, Travis Evans (Amanda) of Honea Path, and LeAnn Widener (Conrad) of Honea Path. He was a proud grandfather to Kayne Evans (Rebecca), Lindley Pennekamp (Alex), Nathan Evans, Brodie Evans, Ethen Widener, and Maranda Widener, as well as a great-grandfather to Hudson, Owen, and Tillman Evans, and Evans Pennekamp. His step-grandchildren, Andruw, Austin, Jakob, Justin, and Braylin Taylor, were also dear to his heart.
Also surviving Theron, are his sister, Faye Evans of Iva, and brother, Jackie Evans (Bonnie) of Honea Path, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Boyd, and five brothers, Troy, Lloyd, Frank, Pete, and Jerome Evans.
For over 66 years, Theron was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as a Royal Ambassadors leader, softball coach, and assistant youth leader, always alongside his wife, Patsy. In later years, he joined Asaville Baptist Church, continuing his lifelong devotion to his faith. Whether in church or on the ballfield, Theron gave his all, mentoring young people and offering guidance and wisdom wherever he could.
Theron's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at NHC and Caris Hospice for their kindness and support during his final days. Their compassion and care will always be remembered.
The family warmly invites all who knew him to gather in remembrance and celebration of his life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Asaville Baptist Church, with burial afterward in the church cemetery.
