Thomas Wayne "Tom" Acton, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at his residence.

Born September 30, 1946, in Seymour, he was the son of late Hubert and Avis (Williams) Acton. He married Alice Lucas on July 21, 2017, in North Vernon; she survives.

Tom served in the United States Army and worked as dump truck driver for the Bartholomew County Highway Department and Lee's Ready Mix. He was a member of Faith United Baptist Church in North Vernon and V.F.W. Post 1987 in Columbus. Tom enjoyed dancing, fishing and attending church.

Surviving with his wife, Alice; is his daughter, Sherry (Gary) Gayhart of Columbus; bonus son, Perry Collett of North Vernon; bonus daughter, Crystal (Jeff) Baker of Scottsburg; brothers, Ronald Acton and Richard (Angie) Acton, both of North Vernon, and Chuck Acton of Ellettsville; sister, Pam (Dave) Woodall of North Vernon; grandchildren, Cody Kiewitt, Todd Kiewitt, Shawn "Homer" Kiewitt; bonus grandchildren, Dristin Ellis, Jazmine Gayhart, Jacob Bennett, Logan Bennett, Brady Bennett, and Isabella Collett; and bonus great-grandchildren, Braxton, Skyler and Hayden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Avis Acton and great-grandchild, Kira Bennett.

The funeral service for Tom will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Larry Collett officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Military rites will be given by members of Matt Hester Post #2021. Burial will be at later date in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials in honor of Tom may be made through the funeral home to the American Kidney Fund.
