Thomas Algeo Obituary

Published by D'Anjolell Stigale Memorial Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of Aston on Apr. 20, 2022.
Thomas Michael Algeo, of Aston, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2022. Thomas ("Tom"), the fourth child of seven children, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 2, 1937 to William Algeo and Catherine Swift Algeo. When the Algeo family moved from Philadelphia to Sharon Hill in Delaware County, the Algeo children enjoyed endless impromptu baseball, football and other games with their new neighborhood friends. Sharon Hill was a bucolic place in the 1940s in which Tom and his siblings helped their father with their chicken coop and ceaseless gardening chores. Tom broke the family tradition of attending St. Joseph's Prep and instead happily enrolled in St. James High School in Chester, Pennsylvania. Tom enjoyed being a St. James Bulldog in all aspects: classes, sports, daily bologna sandwiches and hitchhiking on Chester Pike to ride to school. Tom graduated from St. James in 1955. The U.S. Army was Tom's next stop, in which he was stationed in Germany for the next few years. Tom was proud of his time in the Third Armored Tank Division in the U.S. Army and received numerous awards, including a promotion to Sergeant as a twenty year old. The best part about Tom's Army service was meeting his future wife, Ann Flowerday, while Tom was on leave in England. He charmed Ann in to marrying him and moving to the United States. Tom attended the University of Maryland through the Army and was a voracious reader throughout his life. Tom was employed in oil-related industries from his first job as a salesman with the Keystone Company to many years with the Gulf Oil Company, later Chevron Oil Company and Sunoco Oil Company. Tom was predeceased by his parents, William and Catherine Algeo, and in-laws Albert and Alice Flowerday, brothers, James, William and Gerald, sister-in-law Jean Algeo, and brothers-in-law Patrick Friel, Raymond Mullin and John Flowerday. Tom is survived by his loving wife and devoted caregiver, Ann Algeo, of Aston, Pennsylvania, his children, Annemarie (James Filler) Algeo of Lumberton, New Jersey, William (Lori Wallin) Algeo of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, Thomas (Maureen Stenson) Algeo of Winter Garden, Florida and Alicia (Eric Toth) Algeo of New York, New York. Tom is survived by his grandchildren, Sean (Sara Shookus) Algeo of Rye, New York, William (Ashley Santiago) Algeo of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Catherine (Patrick Hanna) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kerry (Ryan Innes) of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Casey Algeo of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, Aine Filler of Chicago, Illinois and Samuel Filler of Lumberton, New Jersey and one great-grandchild, Tess Dolores Algeo. Tom is also survived by his sisters Kathleen (Mickey McDermott) Mullin of Melbourne, Florida, Ellen (David) Stilwell of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, and Mary Friel of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Jean Algeo of Titusville, Florida, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was a lucky man survived by many grand dogs: Hudson (#1 dog), Lexie, Lady, Lucy, Nugget Muffin, Doc, Appa, Peanut and Pistachio. Tom's family gives special thanks to the staff of Comfort Keepers, especially Joan, and the wonderful staff at the Veterans Hospital Administration for their support and generosity. A funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be at St. Joseph's Church in Aston, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation preceding at the church at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pennsylvania immediately after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, Tom's family asks consideration of a donation in his honor to be sent to the Coatesville VA (Department of Veteran Affairs) Medical Center, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. So very sad to hear the news of Tom's passing. I remember him as a gentle, caring and lovely man. Although far away on the other side of the pond, you are all very much in my thoughts and heart at this difficult time. I hope you all feel comforted in time by the many happy memories I'm sure you all share. Look after each other.
With love and deepest sympathy.
