Thomas E. Banasiak, 88, of Barrington, formerly of La Grange and Chicago, died peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, in Arlington Heights.
Tom was born in Chicago on February 1, 1937, to parents Stephen and Rose (nee Myszkowski) Banasiak. He met Ruth Locke while they were teenagers, and the couple were married on January 24, 1959. Together they raised their four children in Chicago before later moving to La Grange.
Tom was a skilled woodworker who enjoyed spending time outdoors and fishing. He could fix anything, and if he didn’t know how to fix it, he would research and educate himself until he could. Tom had a passion for knowledge and greatly enjoyed reading. He spent countless hours at the library studying anything and everything that caught his attention.
Tom had a strong faith in God and was endlessly dedicated to his family. He was a devoted husband to Ruth, caring for her daily, and a strong father and grandfather. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth Banasiak, his children, Susan (John) Young, and Timothy (Mary) Banasiak, his granddaughters, Rachel (fiancé Max Barnett) Young, and Katherine (fiancé David Murphy) Banasiak, his brother, Anthony “Tony” (Pat) Banasiak, and his sister, Loretta (the late Frank) Gomulka.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Banasiak and David Banasiak, and his brother, Jerome Banasiak.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to time of Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. all at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
