Tom Bangs passed away at his home in Pittston, on May 26, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Born on February 26, 1952, Tom was the son of Edwin T. Bangs and Lucille Carbone Bangs both deceased. He is survived by his wife, Kathie Langla Bangs, whom he married in 1978, and father to Brian Michael Bangs.
Tom is also survived by a sister, Lorraine Nochta, of Waldwick, NJ and a brother, Ken Bangs, of Pittston, PA (what are the chances of two brothers living in towns with the same name in different states). He was the much-loved uncle of Robert Nochta, Marybeth Nelson, Kelly Sapp and Katie Elizabeth Bangs, along with several grand nieces and nephews.
Tom grew up in Waldwick, NJ and spent the first 20 years of his married life, in Mahwah, NJ, where he was an active member and Vice-President of Mahwah Fire Company #1. He built two successful businesses in Mahwah, a Janitorial Service, and a Limousine Service, with clients such as pro-football player Phil Sims, and entertainers, Mel Torme and Vic Damone.
In 1998, the family moved to Rome, Maine, and in 2023 moved to Pittston. He and his partner, Reggie Roy, began a Sealcoating business, which Tom eventually retired from.
Tom's passion in life was baseball and the NY Yankees. He began his baseball career in the early 1960's. He was known for his pitching abilities beginning in Little League up through Varsity and eventually playing Semi-Pro, where to his surprise he once pitched against pro, Jim Bouton, in the 1970's. In the mid 1980's he took on the role of coach to eleven- and twelve-year-old boys, leading them to a league championship. In Maine, he coached for a brief time in Anson.
Tom was a 22-year member of the Augusta Elks Lodge 964. He greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and the many long-time friendships he developed over the years. Members always knew that his trips down to New Jersey meant hand rolled bagels and homemade hot dogs were coming back up with him!
A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
As per Tom's wishes, there will be no services as he wished to have everyone remember him in life. In his remembrance, donations to the Augusta Elks Lodge 964 would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of an old friend passing. We grew up in Waldwick. I watched Tom pitch many of times. We took a lot of road trips. One stands out when we went to the shore and broke down with an axle. Well we did not have enough money, but the shop owner agreed to fix it, if I stayed until Tom comes back with the money. My condolences to Kathy and family. Rest in peace my friend.
Sincerely
Bob Dimick

I remember hanging out with Tom during our junior and senior years in Waldwick and playing football. Sometimes we would go upstate NY to the bars. He was a good friend and we had some good times together but time and distance takes a toll. I send my humble condolences to Tom's family and wish them strength in the coming days. God bless you all.
