Jack Bangs, known as JJ to his friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, on his birthday, at age 77.

Jack was born in Portland, Maine, on December 7, 1948. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward C. Bangs and Mary E. (Betty) Bangs. He lived most of his life in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Jack is survived by his brother Paul F. Bangs and his wife Pamela, of St. Albans, Vermont, Sarah L. Bangs and partner Kellen of Poestenkill, NY, and Rebecca L. Wilson and partner Devin of Fairfax, Vermont, grand nieces and nephews Maddy, Alana, Brady, and Charlie, and brother Edward C. (Ned) Bangs of Marshfield, Massachusetts.

Jack grew up in Marshfield playing sports, participating in the Marshfield Scouting programs, volunteering to help coach baseball and helping out the Marshfield Lions organization. Jack served his town through the Planning Board and the Charter Commission. Jack was a camper and a counselor at Camp Daniel Webster. He was a proud graduate of the Marshfield High School Class of 1966. While at Marshfield High, he took advantage of the many sports teams and clubs, including the Library Club, Science Club, Rocketry Club, class play, Latin Club, and the Student Library Club. In addition, he was a manager of both the basketball and baseball teams.

Jack attended Bently College, and the College of the Desert in Palm Springs, California. Jack also served his country when he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1968 to 1977. Jack had a varied work career, working the summer fair horse racing circuit in Marshfield, Barnstable, Rockingham, North Hampton, and Great Barrington. Additionally, Jack earned his real estate license, worked for the United States Post Office, and for Delta Airlines. He enjoyed the perks of flying, especially to Las Vegas. Over the years, Jack owned and raced horses and greyhounds. Closer to home, Jack enjoyed the Plainridge Park Casino and the Mohegan Sun Casino. He enjoyed his daily trips for coffee to Starbucks and the Green Harbor Coffee Shack.

Per Jack's request, the service will be private, limited to the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Marshfield Food Pantry, at the Marshfield Food Pantry, 1837 Ocean Street in Marshfield, or by mail to P.O.
