Thomas Michael "Judge" Barton of Cresaptown passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at Peace Healthcare at Lions Center, Cumberland, following an extended period of declining health. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas G. and Evelyn Barton, his younger brother William G. (Billy) Barton, and his beloved dog Boots.
Tom was born July 21, 1949, in Cumberland. In his younger years, Tom worked alongside his grandfather and father on the family farm near Cresaptown. He graduated Allegany High School in 1967 and Allegany Community College in 1969, following which he became a member of Local 489 Plumbers and Steamfitters and worked for many years as a Master Heliarc Welder both locally and in many other states along the eastern seaboard.
Tom was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, now Our Lady of the Mountains. He was a lifetime member of Cresaptown Eagles Aerie 2883, where he frequently enjoyed playing cards, shuffleboard and pool. Tom was also an avid hunter in his younger years on the family farm. The "Judge", as Tom was affectionately known, was loved, respected and admired by most everyone who knew him.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Janet L. (Parsons) Barton; his daughter, Debra Stotler and husband Emmett of Flintstone; and two sons, Michael Barton and Tommy Barton of Cresaptown. In addition, he is survived by his sister Nancy Barton Cole and husband Conrad of Clearwater, Florida. He is also survived by two grandsons, Scott Davis of Flintstone and Michael Barton of Rawlings; a granddaughter, Janna (Barton) Mulvey and husband Bronson of Cumberland; and one great granddaughter, Aubree Barton of LaVale. In addition Thomas had numerous nieces and nephews both in Maryland and in Florida. He was also Godfather to his niece Kimberly Fuller. A special "thank you" to Stacy Hartman, mother of Tom's grandchildren, for providing loving care to Tom over the years.
There will be a viewing at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Then the Eagles Aerie 2883 will conduct a memorial service at beginning at 5:00 p.m.
