Thomas J. Bellows, a beacon of humor and kindness, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, in
Boerne, Texas. Born on August 15, 1935, in
Chicago, Illinois, Thomas carried the spirit of his beloved city throughout his life, imparting warmth and intelligence to all he encountered.
Thomas was predeceased by his devoted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bellows, and his cherished son, Scott Bellows. His legacy will be carried on through his loving children: Roderick Bellows (Jan), Adrienne Wilson (David), Jeannine Walker, Derek Bellows (Kathleen), Marshall Bellows (Natalie), Justin Bellows (Kristen), Trevor Bellows (Shelby), and Ethan Bellows (Crystal). His wisdom and love will forever echo in the lives of his grandchildren: Devon Bellows, Adrienne Bellows-Bostic (Michael), Erik Bruns, Jennifer Wilson (Tommy), Charles Wilson (Kayla), Stephen Hood (Tessa), Michael Hood, Ryan Kennedy (Skyla), Amanda Bellows, Laura Wells, Tiffany Burris, and Anthony Bellows. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
A lifelong scholar, Thomas earned his Bachelor's of Arts from Augustana College, a Master of Arts from the University of Florida, and a Master of Arts and a Doctorate Degree in Political Science from Yale, which paved the way for his illustrious career. For over four decades, he stood at the forefront as a professor of Political Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio, shaping the minds and futures of countless students. His passion for education was paralleled only by his commitment to his family and his faith.
Thomas's interests were as vast and deep as his intellect. A world traveler, he found joy in experiencing new cultures and sharing tales of his adventures. His sense of humor was infectious, and his laughter was a gift he gave freely and often. Those who knew him valued his intelligence, but it was his kindness that truly defined him.
A man of God, Thomas's spiritual journey was personal and profound. He lived his faith through his actions, embodying the grace and compassion he believed in so deeply. Even as he traveled the world, his heart remained with his family. His role as a devoted father and grandfather was one he cherished above all else, and the moments he shared with his children and grandchildren were among the most treasured of his life.
