Thomas Berg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandstrand Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Osceola on Feb. 13, 2026.
Thomas F. Berg, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Tom was born on October 2nd, 1937, in Osceola, Wisconsin, to Frank and Julia Berg. He grew up on his family's farm in Osceola, where he learned the value of hard work, faith, and family. As a young man, he spent his days roaming the woods with his brothers and sister - hunting, fishing, and searching for agates and arrowheads, passions that stayed with him his entire life.

After graduating from high school, Tom proudly joined the United States Air Force. He served as an electrician at Kimpo Airbase in Korea during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1962, he returned to Wisconsin and began working for the Rural Electrical Association, traveling to various towns throughout western Wisconsin. In 1970, Tom joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, where he spent the remainder of his career.

Over the years, Tom helped wire many local schools, hospitals, factories, and power plants - work that quite literally helped power communities. During the late 1970s, his skills took him beyond state lines, wiring power plants in Minnesota, Missouri, Washington, Utah, and Nevada. He retired in 1999 after a long and dedicated career.

While home on leave and cruising the local towns with his buddies, Tom met his first wife, Carol Maurer, in Balsam Lake. The two were married at the Catholic Church in Taylors Falls, Minnesota on June 7th. 1958, and together they raised six children. They built a life centered around family, hard work, and the outdoors. Carol passed away in 1995. A few years later, Tom found love again and married Linda Langel of Milltown, Wisconsin on September 24th 1999

Tom was happiest outdoors - hunting in the fall woods, fishing quiet northern lakes, or walking fields in search of hidden treasures. In the mid-1970s, he and his brother Paul began an annual fishing trip to Bear Island Lake near Ely, Minnesota - a tradition that his sons proudly continue to this day.

In his later years, Tom discovered a love for woodworking. His hands, which had wired power plants and built a career, now carefully crafted Christmas gifts for his children and grandchildren - gifts that will be treasured for generations.

Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol; his parents, Frank and Julia Berg; his brother, Richard; and his sister, MaryAnn.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Mike (Pamela), Steve (Jennifer), Doug, Shelly, Ron, and David (Mary) Greg; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Becky) Berg and extended family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Interment will take place at a later date. Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
