Thomas C Betts

Thomas C. Betts, of Toms River, passed away peacefully at age 91 on December 14, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bronxville, NY, and formerly of Middle Village, NY. He is reunited in heaven with his wife, Hannah, his parents, Thomas C. Sr. and Mary (nee O'Shaughnessy) Betts, as well as his brothers, Andrew and James. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Leckie and her husband, Geoff Leckie. Six children carry on Tom's spirit- Thomas and his fiancée Sherry Fraind, Mary Ann and Henry Hamann, Matthew and Megan, Daniel and Allison, Maurice and Jeanne, and Michael and Jennifer. His 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild were the joy of his life. Grandchildren Rebecca, Rachel, Daniel Jr., Robert, Margaret, Mallory, Madeline, Taryn, Addison, Landon, Matthew, Mackenzie, Darcy and great-grandson Michael were very much loved by him. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, the excitement of his life. He was a communicant at St. Joseph's Church in Toms River, where he served as an usher and long-time food pantry volunteer, which allowed him to put his charitable ideals to work.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 19th, 2025, from 3pm to 7pm, at the Carmona Bolen Home for Funerals, 412 Main St., Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Joseph's RC Church in Toms River on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at 9am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
