Thomas J. Blum, age 50 of Plain, passed away on January 3, 2026 after a short battle with stage 4 non-small cell carcinoma. He was born on November 17, 1975 in
Madison, WI the son of Kenneth and Carol (Williams) Blum. He was married on April 18, 1998 to Tricia Fechtner.
Thomas John Blum was an extraordinary husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by love, dedication, and quiet strength. Above all else, Tom loved his family. His wife, and his two daughters were the center of his world, his greatest pride, and his constant motivation. Everything he did, every long day and every hard decision, was driven by his desire to care for and protect the people he loved most.
Tom spent over 15 years working at Best Buy, where he became far more than a manager - he became a mentor, a leader, and a steady presence so many relied on. The outpouring of stories and memories from former coworkers speaks volumes about the kind of man he was. He led with fairness, compassion, humor, and unwavering support, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him. To many, he wasn't just a boss - he was someone who genuinely cared.
Outside of work, Tom found joy in video games, a passion that connected him to friends, coworkers, and family alike. Diablo was his longtime favorite, a game he returned to time and time again. Many nights were spent laughing and strategizing online, throwing together a fireteam with the Best Buy crew for the next Destiny run. Those late-night sessions were about more than gaming - they were about camaraderie, connection, and shared joy, all things Tom valued deeply.
Tom was an amazing man - dependable, loving, hardworking, and deeply kind. He showed his love not just through words, but through actions, consistency, and sacrifice. His presence made people feel safe, valued, and understood. The loss of him leaves an immeasurable void, but his legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he shaped, and the countless memories shared by those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
