Thomas "Tommy" Boyd

Mr. Thomas B. "Tommy" Boyd, age 85 of Laurel Drive, Sandersville, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with burial following in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Andy Yates, Reverend Andy Carter, Elder Pamela Brown, and Dr. Justin Terrell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dustin Price, Elliott Price, Cullen Collins, Robert Jackson, Bryce Miller, Blayne Miller, David Story, Gilbert Story, and Randy New. Tommy's former co-workers at the Georgia Department of Transportation and Imerys will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Boyd was born in Tennille, the son of the late J.T. "Tom" Boyd and the late Mildred Cook Boyd. He was a member of the Tennille High School class of 1957. Mr. Boyd served his country for 20 years as a member of the National Guard, serving tours in Maryland during the Berlin Crisis, and in Jordan during preparation for Desert Storm. He retired after 35 years of working with the Georgia Department of Transportation as a transportation engineer, and 18 years at Imerys as a lab technician. During retirement, Mr. Boyd worked for Sandersville Drug Company as a delivery driver. In his spare time, he liked to drive his tractor, coon hunt, fish, or go to the beach, and he was a dedicated Atlanta Falcons fan. Mr. Boyd was easy going, and well liked, with most who knew him referring to him simply as "Pa or Papa." His greatest love in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Boyd was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his first wife of 43 years, Joan Story Boyd; and his sister, Betty Boyd New.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife of 18 years, Teresa Cullens Boyd; son, Chris Boyd (Pam) of Milledgeville; stepdaughters, Tricia Jackson (Horace) of Harrison, Tracey Price (Wesley) of Pringle, and Crystal Miller (Shane) of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Emily B. Terrell (Justin), Heath Boyd (Chaffin), Cullen Collins, Robert Jackson, Dustin Price (Harley), Elliott Price (Jade), Kaylee Miller, Bryce Miller, Blayne Miller; great grandchildren, Sadie Terrell, Jade Terrell, Lincoln Boyd, Marci Boyd, Loxley Price, and Bella Waller.

The family suggests donations be made in Mr. Boyd's memory to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 270 News Bridge Road, Tennille, GA 31089, or to Brentwood School, P.O. Box 955, Sandersville, GA 31082.
