Thomas James Bulltail, 26, of Lodge Grass, Montana, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025. He was a beloved father, son, nephew, grandson, brother, uncle, papa, in law. His Crow Indian name, issaashkee issaasheishee anmaalatbeishiash - "His Horse's Blanket has Markings" - was given to him by his late grandfather Edmund Little Light Jr..
He was a proud member of Ties the Bundle & child of Sore Lip. He was also a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Lodge Grass, MT and his godparents are Wendell Wolf Black & Bekki Gros Ventre (deceased). Thomas was born on December 24, 1998, in Billings, MT to Josephine "Sunshine" Bulltail & Dominic Flat Mouth (both deceased), his stepmother Sherry Not Afraid. He was a descendent of Goes Well & Striped Dog. He was lovingly raised by his maternal grandmother, Carol Bulltail. Grandparents; Clyde Little Light, Ronald (Virjama) Flat Mouth; Kalaa Francine Morrison.
Thomas graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 2017 with many honors. He received a scholarship through FFA, traveled to Ireland, became a certified welder while still in high school, was recognized for traveling over 65,000 miles throughout his FFA Career "Student who Traveled the Most Miles Award." He participated in Football and Basketball, JROTC throughout high school. He attended the Close-Up Program to Washington, DC., and New York.
Thomas had a generous spirit and deep respect for elders. Through the New Mexico Service-Learning Trip, he traveled 3 years in a row to the Navajo Reservation, where he chopped and delivered firewood to elders in remote areas. In addition, he would hunt wild game and provide meat to the elders, continuing the traditional value of caring for the community through the knowledge he gained from his uncle's Dewey & Wales – building sweat. These acts of service showed the strength of his heart and the teachings he carried. He had the heart of a cowboy – he loved riding horses, rode steers, worked with local ranches and often helped with branding cattle. Known for his helpful spirit, he was always willing to lend a hand and never hesitated to say "I love you" to family, as well as anybody he associated with.
